Tafraoute is a long drive from the coast, which is exactly why the granite country around it still feels remote. This trip splits it over two days so you are not spending the whole time in the vehicle: one day out to the Anti-Atlas and the villages around Tafraoute, and a second for the Canyon of Ait Mansour on the way home.
The landscape does most of the talking. Rounded pink granite boulders pile up above the road, the hills are dotted with painted rocks, and the old Berber villages are scattered through the valley. The canyon at Ait Mansour is the opposite: narrow, green and full of palms.
